Every time I open Instagram or Pinterest, I feel like I'm not doing enough — like everyone else is ahead of me, achieving their goals, while I'm somehow lagging.

There's always someone more confident than me…
Or someone who understands things better than I do…
Or someone who has reached a result or made a good profit.

And I’m the one struggling alone, just trying to keep taking small steps.

Comparing myself to others always creates pressure and holds me back — especially when I’m not feeling confident and I’m craving some kind of result to feel more secure.

But what I try to remember is this: comparing myself to others is not a measure of success or failure.

It just means I’m diminishing the value of what I’m doing and what I believe in, in exchange for the success of someone who has a completely different story.

Why does comparison make us feel inferior or like we’re not putting in enough effort?

Something that always helps me understand and overcome these feelings is this: comparison presents a story — a polished picture of someone else’s reality. Our minds absorb that image and start seeing it as a mirror, reflecting our own insecurities and feelings of inadequacy.

Sometimes, the story we create about others even pushes us to build a personal story that doesn’t belong to us.

It makes us forget our own experience… the values that drive us… the social and economic circumstances around us… and the opportunities that shape our pace — whether slower or faster.

Ultimately, as I learned from Dr. John Demartini, no two people share the same driving values.

Every person has internal values that shape their actions, worldview, and achievements.

The moment we compare ourselves to others, we dismiss our own values, context, circumstances, and opportunities — and we shrink in front of someone else’s story, someone whose life may be completely different from ours.

This applies to everything in life, especially entrepreneurship — especially if you’re starting from scratch and trying to build something real from nothing.

Always remember: you are comparing your story to only a small part of someone else’s story.

Being different doesn’t mean you’ve failed — it means you’re creating your own success story in your own way.

🌱 The Real Source of Self-Confidence (Not What You Think)

When I think about how to overcome my feelings of inadequacy and build self-confidence, I realize something: you always need to remember who you are and what you’re trying to offer.

You need to reconnect with the values that drive you — not only in life but also in your business.

I was listening to Pat Flynn’s podcast with Seth Godin, and he said that the best starting point for any strategy is knowing who you are and what value you offer.

When I reflect on this, I feel it’s not just a strategic idea — it also strengthens your confidence in the story you tell yourself.

This clarity protects you from comparing yourself to others, because you become anchored in your own journey.

It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t learn from others, but it means we shouldn’t diminish the value of our own experience in the process.

And we shouldn’t lose sight of where we want to go.

Inner confidence comes from the clarity you build within — the clarity that allows you to continue even when no one sees your efforts, or when the results haven’t shown up yet.

🔄 Three-Step Reframe to Rebuild Your Self-Confidence When You Feel Behind

Here’s an exercise that can help you rebuild your confidence when comparison starts weighing on you:

1. Awareness of the Feeling

The first and most important step is to be aware of your feelings — to sit with them without judgment.

It’s natural to tell yourself:

“I’m comparing myself.”

“I feel jealous.”

“I feel less than others.”

Being aware without shame is the beginning of change.

It means recognizing that these are human emotions — not something to reject, but something to observe.

And when we observe our emotions, their intensity begins to soften.

2. Being Aware of the Present Moment

Reflect on your own values and your current journey.

Ask yourself:

  • What stage am I in right now?

  • What resources do I have? (This is especially important if you come from a challenging or financially pressured background.)

  • What are my priorities at this stage — not someone else’s?

Your circumstances shape your pace.

There is nothing wrong with that.

3. Reconnecting with Your Goals

Try to always remember the goals you set for yourself — the strategy that defines who you are and what you offer.

This clarity helps you see your uniqueness and reconnect with the value of your goals.

The clearer you are on your own path, the more confident and grounded you become — free from the pressure of comparison.

And remember…

When you feel like you're falling behind or under the pressure of comparison…

This is just a feeling, not a definition of who you are.

You have your own rhythm.

Your own timing.

Your own experience.

And the transformation happening within you has its own pace — one you need to trust so you can see its fruits.
